Where Were You, Governor Shumlin?

The website of Vermont's Governor Peter Shumlin features this picture--with the label: 'Strengthening Our Education System.'

The Governor's schedule for Oct. 15 showed: No official public appearances scheduled.

On Oct. 15, the Governor was a no-show at the moving celebration for the 2014 Teacher of the Year, Luke Foley. Luke works in alternative education program--definitely far afield from the Common Core so favored by the National Governors Association, of which he was elected chair December 4, 2012.

Exhibiting pride in the school whose strong experiential education program presents a powerful alternative for students, the Fire Department was represented, as was the Police Department. I was impressed by all the greetings exchanged with students filing in to the ceremony.

Governor Shumlin definitely wouldn't have been the star of this show, but he should have been there. On Oct. 16, at 7:30 a.m., Gov Shumlin was at ribbon cutting for new Wal-Mart in St. Albans, Vermont.

Priorities. Priorities.
