What Counts at the White House

by Susan Ohanian

I just took a White House survey, which starts out with that glad-hander tone:

We're working to make the White House website better -- more informative and more responsive to your needs.

And as part of that process, we want to hear directly from you.

We want to know what's working and what isn't, what issues matter to you, and how easy it is for you to find that information on WhiteHouse.gov. Your feedback will help to shape our work in the weeks and months ahead.

They asked how often I visited www.whitehouse.com and what issues are important to me. Yes, they include Education in the list but not Empire Building and War.

Then they asked name, gender, etc.

And finally this:

Which of the following describe you (check all that apply):

Business owner

What?!! "Business Owner" is the only profession that matters to the White House? What about butcher, baker, candlestick maker? Teacher? Plumber? Surgeon?
