How does one cope with these two stories from Alabama?

  • There are now 5,302 homeless students in the 59,000-student Mobile, Ala., school district -- up from more than 2,000 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.-- Education Week

  • Several members of the Alabama Legislature want $100 million to throw out many of the books and replace them with laptops, tablets and other modern technology.--Associated Press

    Alabama Rep Phil Williams says,"What you want is to be able to access data." No, Mr. Williams, what you want is all children having a roof over their heads and their caregivers employed in living wage jobs.
