No Child Left Behind Summer Reading Achievers Pilot Program

I distrust most reading lists. One pretty good definition of hubris would be making a list for summer reading for every third grader in the land. But the people at the U. S. Department of Education have come up with a real howler.

Thanks to the librarian, parents, and teachers at PS 154 in Brooklyn for the tip.

Note: I make no judgment here on whether first graders are likely to enjoy Goodnight Moon or any other recommendation. For now, let's just look at the accuracy of the recommendations--as in misspellings, typos, and general whackiness. The correct title and/or author's real name are listed in parenthesis.

Yes, some errors are clearly typos, but their proliferation seems to indicate an overall lack of care. If you were called upon to render a public spelling of Chincoteague, wouldn't you double check? The multiple errors cause one to wonder much care was given to the list itself.
