Fairness and Openness in Florida's Government
In a story on the release of this year's FCAT scores, the Tallahassee Democrat reported that "Department of Education officials refused to release figures showing how many 10th graders passed both portions of the test, saying the figure could be used to criticize the FCAT." Funny how the DOE has no qualms about labeling schools and children as failures, but they bristle at any criticism of the test itself. Let's give the DOE F's for fairness and openness--and hit agency officials with a public records request for the information they want to keep secret.
