e test vanishes from Socorro H.S.

Ohanian Comment: "Note the information: Home visits were made."

    Why?

Why was there a need to send a letter to parents apologizing for "stress caused by the incident"? Who caused this stress to families?

    Why?

Teacher Comment: State Emergency! Call out the National Guard! Better yet, call Arne Duncan, Michelle Rhee, Bill Gates, or Hanna Skandera (she'll find it!)! If we don't find that test, the house of cards known as standardized testing might collapse and the emperor will have to buy some clothes!

SOCORRO -- During the last week of the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment testing at
the high school, one of the test booklets disappeared from a teacher's desk.
The booklet went missing April 3.

Associate superintendent Anton Salome said the booklet was not one being used as an actual
test but rather one that was used to read test questions to students aloud as an accommodation.
The test administrator had been using the booklet to administer a makeup test.

Everything possible is being done to find the booklet, he said. An extensive search has been
conducted, from every bookshelf in the school to the Dumpsters outside the school. The students in the classroom at the time have been questioned, and home visits have been made. "We will be looking for it until we find it," Salome said.

The state Public Education Department has been involved strongly in providing guidance as to
what to do, he said. Since the disappearance happened close to the end of the testing window,
the students will not have to retake the tests. Most of them had already taken it by the time the booklet disappeared.

In a letter to parents, superintendent Randall Earwood stated the district has been in daily contact with PED regarding the matter. The PED has released information to the district that ". . . it can be said, 'with a great deal of certainty,' that the students̢۪ scores resulting from their participation in this assessment will not be invalidated."

The letter apologizes for stress caused by the incident and stated the school district "is taking a very serious approach in dealing with those decisions that contributed to this situation."

Anyone with questions or information regarding the test booklet can call Earwood at 835-0300.
