Letter to Arne Duncan:

1) What is the source(s) for your repeated claim that students in India and China receive 25 to 30 percent more schooling than American children?

2) What is your source for claims that America's economic competitiveness is directly related to how well American children perform on internationally recognized tests for math and science?

3) What is your source or evidence that having national standards will improve public education of American children?

4) What evidence do you have that bureaucrats in Washington can better decide what is taught in a classroom than the teacher in that classroom and local officials?

5) The Soviet Union did a fine job at nationally standardizing their curriculum and having "top down" democracy determining their educational agenda. What evidence do you have that similar tactics, often called Stalinist organization, will not have similar bad results in the United States?

6) When will you have the courage to engage in a debate on live television with critics of the policies your are pushing?
