To the editor

Asked to summarize the lessons of history, 20th Century American historian Charles A. Beard wrote, "When it is dark enough, you can see the stars."

Against the black hole of inadequate state funding and dilatory decision-making by state officials, the Fairport school board and Superintendent William Cala radiate courage and illuminate the educational firmament. We are inspired by their example and hope that school boards across the country will follow suit in holding politicians and bureaucrats accountable for presenting timely, adequate budgets that meet community needs.

"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless

minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds."
