Re "Writing in Schools Is Found Both Dismal and Neglected" (news article, April 26):

It's ironic that many college professors express alarm over their students' poor writing skills. As most students can attest, many of the textbooks that professors assign (sometimes their own) are filled with examples of terrible writing.

If professors expect students to learn by example, they should assign only well-written books.
