Should toddlers count their cheerios before they eat them?

School administrators in Florida are not doing their job. They should be protecting children from the excessive and inappropriate testing imposed on the schools by non-educators. Instead, they are cooperating by turning schools into full time test-prep academies.

The latest measure to destroy the pleasure of learning is to artificially impose math and science into electives far beyond reasonable levels, such as singing about multiplication in music class and discussing sound waves during band practice ("'Fun' classes sneak in FCAT's fundamentals," Feb. 14). What's next, requiring toddlers to count their cheerios in the morning?
