[Susan notes: Here's a retired educator speaking out against Florida Senate Bill 6.]

Submitted to Senator Lynn but not published

Dear Senator Lynn,

I had worked in Volusia County during your tenure there. Your successful career in public service has made Volusians proud. Please continue our pride in your service by voting against this onerous Bill. Diane Ravitch, an education official of both Bush presidents, has recently recanted and debunked their accountability processes in her new book. Please read her revelatory book that proves you can't run schools like a business. She describes the destructive results of their choice, voucher and high-stakes testing process and the dismal failure of the NCLB.

> I am writing as a concerned retired educator in Volusia County Schools. Senate Bill 6 appears to be a political bill that is bad for students, teachers and our system of public education. I see nothing in this bill that supports our students learning or our ability to improve the learning environment. This bill flies in the face of school reform supported by many, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I find in interesting that this bill recognizes the work being done in Hillsborough County yet turns around and blocks any of that from happening in other districts, like our own. I am counting on you to stand up to this attack on our profession, both yours and mine, and vote no on this bill.
