Dear Senator Tom Harkin,

As a lifetime educator both here and abroad, and as founder of our Coalition for Better Education, Inc. I have seen much of the fallout of the passage of the legislation in January of 2002 known as No Child Left Behind. And all of it is bad.

I have a lot of wonderful company. Do please see the works of erudite educators such as Alfie Kohn, Susan Ohanian, Stephen Krashen, Angela Engel, Jonathan Kozol, and now most recently, Diane Ravitz. A formidable wave of criticism continues to grow against the present educational policy which ignores the needs and talents of our children and places inordinate emphasis on a hopelessly flawed and tyrannical testing regimen.

I invite you to visit our website at http://www.thecbe.org simply as a point of departure into the unfolding saga of what is happening to public education and the litany of consequences that have befallen it.
