To the Editor:

The story of the kindergarten teacher Laurin MacLeish (Education page, May 28) is bittersweet. While Lake Silver Elementary has lost an innovative educator who truly loves her work, it's refreshing to read of a teacher who will not compromise her beliefs on what education should be.

It is teachers like Ms. MacLeish who understand that the measure of a child's success should not be gauged by test scores.
