To the editor

The SAT II writing test is supposed to judge writing ("Grading This Article? First, Take Time to Learn the Rules," Education page, June 11), but it is really a test of drafting. Thomas Mann said, "A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people." No one can write an essay worth reading in 20 minutes.
