To the editor

"Sabotaged" is exactly the right word in the headline of Michael Winerip's trenchant, heartbreaking, and truly devastating column (March 5 "Hard-Working Teachers, Sabotaged When Student Test Scores Slip"). I wonder if it will take total meltdown of the teaching profession to satisfy Mayor Bloomberg. According to http://www.mikebloombert.com he was at American University on March 2 to "discuss New York City's innovative education reforms" with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. There, Bloomberg declared, "In God we trust. Everyone else has to bring data."

The mayors were amused. Surely, New York City parents want better.
