[Susan notes: NOTE: Even though the automatic system registers this letter as 'published,' that's just wishful thinking. It is not published.

Letters are important even if we don't hold out any hope they will be published. What we can hope that with these letters some journalist, somewhere, will pause 16 seconds in his daily rounds of repeating Gates Foundation hogwash. ]

To the editor

In 'Games based' learning (July 16), General Assignment reporter Jamie Sarrio writes that two years ago the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation "brought together 20 of the country's best assessment designers with 20 of the world's best game designers to discuss creating games that engage kids more deeply," Question: Were any teachers included in this group?

I would note that the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation funded the development of the Common Core State [sic] Standards and the PR campaigns to publicize them.

It is somewhat disingenuous to refer to the Gates Foundation as a "non-profit." Gates reaps enormous tax benefits by diverting money to a place where he can push his agenda, money that would otherwise be collected by the U. S. Internal Revenue Service. So our tax dollars are diverted to a foundation that profoundly affects education policy--without consulting of teachers or parents.
