Dear Ellen,

How could you??? This from a teacher of 32 years who thinks you and your show are the greatest, kindest show on the air; JCP has been my favorite store for as long as I can remember. My boys (now 36 & 37) were raised on JCP clothes.

When you support Teach For America, you are contributing to the takeover of our free public education system by corporate America. Students in high poverty areas need experienced teachers, not those with 6 weeks of training. Why would a person want to become a TFA? Because when they complete their 2 years, $50,000 of college debt is erased, and they are free to leave teaching and pursue the career of their degree choice. Why would a school pay $5,000 to have a TFA? Because teachers are on a 2 year probation, and can be fired for any reason, and so would be easy to control.

Please reconsider. I would love to show you how I turned from a teacher buried in my classroom to an activist. Go to the Save Our Schools website www.saveourschoolsmarch.org and listen to the webinar with Rita Solnet of Parents Across America (another fantastic resource). Read what the Chicago teachers want for their students.{HINT: Chicago teachers aren't the only ones.}

You & JCPenney wuz bamboozled! I still love you both, but please don't destroy public education!

Jane Watson
