To the editor

In his The Weekend Interview with Rahm Emanuel: Rahmbo at the School Barricades (Sept. 15), David Feith omits one pertinent fact that is essential to understanding not only Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's appreciation for the need to reform Chicago's public schools, but also his commitment to achieving that reform. It also helps predict how the mayor will make his choice about insisting on some effective measure of teacher accountability against the strong opposition from a teachers' union that is a source of fundraising and manpower for the Democratic Party. It is this: Mayor Emanuel sends his own children to private school.

When he says of the teachers' strike, "my interest isn't the national," one can add: No, Mayor Emanuel's interest isn't even the personal.
