LIBRARIES WORK

It is ironic that the Pioneer Press' July 9 article about public library cutbacks appeared one day after an article announcing that

256 Minnesota schools were "under-performing."

Research consistently shows that school and public library quality is directly related to how well children read: Better libraries mean

better readers, and better readers do better in school.
