This letter should make every parent pause--and spend a few more minutes talking to--and listening to--the kids.]

To the editor

Donald J. Mc Hugh, Jr. is, of course, quite

correct when he states that "Parental

Guidance is Required" (Op-Ed, July 12.)

In the meantime we are busily disconnecting

and/or emotionally depriving our children starting in the delivery room after which we use cribs, separate bedrooms, playpens, walkers, au-

pairs, baby-sitters, day-care centers, preschool,

regular school, college, graduate school, peer

groups, soccer lessons, and those highly-addic-

tive electronic screens not to mention the fact

that the average parent now spends 6 hours/

week shopping, 40 minutes with the kids.

But we sure know how to produce, consume,

ruin the environment, and make war.

An observation: - with their small brains and

large bodies, the dinosaurs lived for 130 million

years: - we'll be lucky to make it for 130,000.

One possible explanation: -- paleontological

evidence, recently unearthed, indicates that

those "primitive" reptiles actually took care

of the young.
