[Susan notes: There were 454 online comments at the New York Times. The "top Times pick" heading the list calls for guns at the borders to keep people out. "If people have legitimate refugee claims, they should apply at the local embassy."]

To the editor

Rush to Deport Young Migrants Could Trample Asylum Claims (July 20, 2014) offers sad evidence that something has gone terribly awry with that Statue of Liberty imperative, "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free...."

These days authorities send back children desperately in need of refuge but welcome EB-5 immigrants who have $500,000 to invest in approved "economic growth" projects-- such as an indoor water park at a Vermont ski resort water park.

I feel anger. . . and shame.
