Compton students deserve a better vision of school--and life-- than revealed in this headline: In Compton, school police can use semiautomatic weapons. Every member of the Compton community should take a look back at the message one of their schools promoted some years back. The film "OT: Our Town" received rave reviews for its account of a remarkable Dominguez High School theatrical production.

In this update of Thornton Wilder's classic set in Grover's Corner Compton teens provide a message of powerful educational and social value to a tough and violent school and its tough and violent neighborhood in Compton, California. Compton school kids need more performing arts, not AR-15s.
