To the editor

Re your Jan. 8 news article about the decision to end the ban on cellphones in New York City public schools:



Pity the poor teachers, who will most certainly hear the cellphone ringtones of students going off throughout the day, thanks to Mayor Bill de Blasio's ill-advised action.



As for the students who said they would use their cellphones to "check in with their parents," I say, stop it. Students need to check in with their teachers (who are responsible for their safety), not their parents, who are not even on site.
