Re "Looting the Future," by Paul Krugman (column, Dec. 5):

As a teacher and a mother, I have always felt no matter how bad things might be that my job, my calling, was to try to instill some kind of hope or positive vision in young people.

The "hijacking of public policy by private interests" that Mr. Krugman describes so well makes that job infinitely more difficult, if not impossible.

How tragic that the future of our children is being systematically stripped away, sacrificed by those in power with so little comprehension or concern for the consequences of their actions.
