Congratulations to the Bonita Vista Seventeen who stood up for what they believe about California's testing: that it has reached insane proportions (May 5's story, "17 at Bonita Vista High displease their principal"). And shame on their principal and teachers for threatening them for

merely exercising their rights to opt out under California law. Why have the adults in this school abdicated their principles? Please note that no one quoted in the article said "These students are depriving us of valuable information about their academic needs," because no one

believes this. The tests are simply the quid for the quo of real estate rankings. Shame on all the educators involved in this ugly story of blackmail.
