Re "For Students Who Struggle, a Pilgrimage of the Elite'' (Coping, by Anemona Hartocollis, May 30), about parents of private school students who tutor at disadvantaged public schools: My first reaction was to laugh; the second was to be horrified by the fact that the parents were quite serious.

I am amused at the idea that private school parents, among them presidents of major corporations, have the audacity to shuttle themselves to public schools, if for no other reason than just to be there and be rich.

They assume that just because they are richer, they'd be better influences on children. Sometimes it's the opposite. These parents should find some other cause, because this one is pointless. At the least, they should give less fortunate students something they can benefit from, like qualified teachers.
