Re "Leave No Sales Pitch Behind" (editorial, Jan. 4):

Three years ago, the Air Force visited the high school where I teach and brought along its rock band. Classes were suspended so that young, hip-looking recruits could dazzle my students with a thumping bass, pop hits and an outsized G.I. Joe puppet that rocked up and down the aisles with all the grace of Joe Camel.

The message was clear: the Air Force is cool, the Air Force is fun, the Air Force is for children just like you.

With advertising like that in the New York City public schools, who needs a sales pitch at all?
