To the editor

Editor -- Your editorial accurately describes the disastrous effects of the standards movement on teaching and learning in public schools. But it overlooks a more sinister aspect.
Despite the rhetoric, the standards movement at heart is intended to advance a political agenda aimed at eventually dismantling public education as we know it. In the service of this goal, supporters are ignoring, suppressing or distorting evidence that would reveal what is really taking place.

The campaign is succeeding little by little, just the way it was intended. By the time the entire truth comes out, it will be too late to remedy the damage done to a generation of students.
