[Susan notes: This is such a good idea. Many reporters probably don't think about how casually they are taking the very idea of imposing this competitive model on schools. Let's follow Don Perl's respectful model and write letters pointing out that they are reinforcing "the culture of competition which is strangling our schools and is the antithesis to true education."]

To the editor

Dear Ms. Allison Sherry:

I do want to thank you for your article of April 8 which, among other issues, spoke of a teacher being placed on leave for a"CSAP irregularity." However, I must make mention of your lead sentence which states that Bromwell is "one of the city's best elementary schools." Sentences like this serve to reinforce the culture of competition which is strangling our schools and is the antithesis to true education. Yes, Bromwell's scores may be excellent, but education is so complex that it can not be measured by scores on a test, and reinforcing competition is a barrier to true learning.

Don Perl
