WASLmania

The Bozos of the Year Award goes hands-down to the Central Park School Staff and Principal in Aberdeen, Washington.

A nine-year-old fourth-grader was doing his WASL writing exam. Those wonderous WASL creators asked: "You are in school looking out the window and you see your principal flying by." Complete in three paragraphs. The nine-year old respected his principal and would not answer an insulting question about her.

His teacher and the principal locked him in isolation for five hours; giving him several direct orders to complete the essay. Other than pistol-whip the kid, they screamed and insulted him and even denied him lunch. (Child abuse will not be discussed; that is for the DHSH to determine.) When the child's mother found out about this incident the school administrators apologized (Ya).

On May 12, in Spokane, Dr. David C. Berliner, internationally acclaimed educational researcher, warned the WEA Representative Assembly about abusive and corruptive influences as a consequence of high-stakes tests. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Bergeson followed Berliner and sternly asserted that test abuses do not happen in Washington State. Daaaa. Stay Tuned.
