Hidden deep on page 13 of the July 24 Parade was an "Intelligence Report" by LyricWallwork Winik. It stated, "A recent Government Accountability Office report said the Pentagon threw out $2.2 billion worth of items 'in new, unused and excellent condition' in fiscal years 2002 and 2003." This

is mind-boggling! Educators would be so thrilled to get $2.2 billion of additional funding! We would never waste money like that. Colleagues and I often pick up discarded pencils in the hallway that are less than 3" long just to use them with students who don't come prepared for class. How can we continue to believe the Bush administration when they say that there just isn't enough money to put into funding classrooms?
