To the editor

Ben Feller,

Long ago, like many I know, I gave up on the

mainstream press in general for being

"stenographers for those in power." I was a

classroom teacher for 22 years in urban schools,

and I know the territory. Rarely does the

mainstream media get it even CLOSE to

accurate. Even NPR, since the Republican

takeover in 1994, is little more than a

mouthpiece for the conservatives who are ruining

our country. These days, I can only rely on

Pacifica Radio and Free Speech TV to tell the

truth, and their resources are way too meager to

cover all the important stories, especially in Education.

I don't know you, nor do I know about the

ideological pressures you face from your

editors. I'll assume that you at least WANT to

tell the truth in accordance with the code of

ethics of your profession. So, rather than

recycle canned propaganda, please get out into

the schools and meet the people who have

dedicated their lives to serving children, and

open your eyes to seek the real story of our public schools.
