To the editor

How did Duke Helfand keep a straight face describing our State Board of Education's absurd decision to fail 98% of our schools? White is black, day is night, and having all our schools fail will "restore public confidence". Under No Corporation Left Behind, the 100% of our

low-income schools failing to meet Adequate Yearly Progress will be cut off at the knee.

When Chrysler and Lockheed screw up we give them MORE money, not less. And this whole house of cards rests firmly on tests, which researchers at Arizona State University, in a study funded by the

Rockefeller Foundation, have just demonstrated make schools worse, not better. Orwell, somewhere, is shaking his head.

Why don't we stand up with Nebraska, Vermont, and parts of Florida and tell "Bush" (whatever that is) to keep its damn money?
