To the editor

As a second-grade mother, I couldn't agree more with "No More Teachers, Lots of Books" (Op-Ed, June 19). In addition to blaming some teachers, I also blame many of today's supercompetitive parents, who have made up this imaginary link between huge amounts of homework and getting into a better university. There is no evidence that I have uncovered to prove such nonsense.

Involved parents, family time and happy, healthy kids seem to play a much bigger role in the present and future success of our children.

It's time we took the extreme pressure off our youth and let them enjoy their childhood again. They have their entire adult lives to be stressed!
