[Susan notes: Kudos to Joseph Lucido for emphasizing the point that NCLB ignores teacher professionalism.]

In the article âFirst lady defends criticized âNo Childâ tests,â I find it amusing that the first lady said: âWe would never go to a doctor and say, âIâm sick, you canât try to diagnose me you canât use any kind of test,â (âFirst lady defends criticized âNo Childâ tests,â USATODAY.com, July 22).

Sheâs right; we would be foolish to say that. We expect more. When one goes to a medical professional, we donât get just one test that determines our health. We might get many types of tests for a diagnosis.

Bushâs defense of one high-stakes test to determine school, teacher and student âwellnessâ is indefensible. Multiple measures must be taken into account. This includes the teacherâs professional opinion â just like a doctorâs.
