The Hypocrisy of Joseph Tucci's NCLB Fantasy

George Schmidt, Editor-in-Chief of Substance, notes the irony of this headline: Joseph Tucci, president and CEO of EMC Corporation and chairman of the Business Roundtable's Education & the Workforce Task Force, to discuss No Child Left Behind.

So Spellings and Kennedy are meeting with the Business Roundtable to get their talking points straight?

The hypocrisy of this CEO fantasy -- and the conservative and neoliberal politicians who fantasize with it--knows no bounds.

Will someone join me in reminding the world (or at least our small part of it) that if a public school had seen a more than 80 percent decline in test scores, Joe Tucci would be calling for the school to be reconstituted or privatized.

But Tucci's own EMC corporation saw an even greater decline in stock price (and market cap) since 2000 and yet Tucci is allowed to pontificate about public schools. If Tucci were a school principal and faculty, Tucci would be calling for Tucci to be fired. Why isn't Kennedy talking about this disconnect, or is teaching bashing and public school bashing so ingrained that it's taken for granted?
