No Child Left Behind: More idiocy

I worked as a special education teacher at our local junior high one year. It was one of the worst years of my life. There were many stressful things about it, but No Child Left Behind was a dominant and driving source of hell. We taught children with special needs. These are kids who are receiving special services because they cannot perform the same tasks as children without special needs. Am I speaking slowly enough, for you, legislators?

However, No Child Left Behind has no provisions for children with special needs. Because no child is to be left behind. And you know who gets punished when the child with an IQ of 65, who canít read, canít perform well on standardized tests? School districts. And now the legislation is affecting teacher contracts. Teachers are seeking contract languages that protect them from penalty if school districts donít perform well overall on standardized tests. . . .
