So Much for No Child Left Behind

Ohanian Comment: The Houston Press has a powerful and insightful article by Margaret Downing of the Houston Press, a weekly. They won't let me post it here. I hope you will click on the url below and read it. Gerald Bracey calls Downing a "Texas Treasure."

Downing isn't just another journalist looking for an expose. She tutored a student for a long period of time and then, as soon as the TAKS was over, was told that she needn't bother to come back.

She discusses a new study Avoidable Losses: High-Stakes Accountability and the Dropout Crisis by Linda McSpadden McNeil (with the Rice Center for Education) along with Eileen Coppola and Judy Radigan from Rice and Julian Vasquez Heilig from the University of Texas at Austin.
