Here's what Gerald Bracey writes about When
Childhood Collides with NCLB.

by Gerald Bracey

The most extensive proof---and certainly the
most poetic--that NCLB has been a "massive
failure" resides in Susan Ohanian's When
Childhood Collides with NCLB.
All pages
show two columns. The right column contains
quotes, some of them by NCLB enthusiasts (such
as the Business Roundtable and Bush), and some
savagely trenchant ones from critics. In the
left column, for 92 pages, Ohanian limns a free
verse poem, using both her own words and those
of others such as Immanuel Kant, Herman
Melville, Langston Hughes, and Woody Guthrie.

Available cheap, but only through the Vermont
Society for the Study of Education. Ohanian's
poem closes

A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw off corporate-politico chains
And teach again.
Blind obedience or revolution
Time to choose.
Trusting children and books
And yourself
Is a revolutionary act.
The time is now.

The book is $8.95, which includes postage.
