NCLB Outrages

If not us, who? If not now, when?

by Buddy Fish

I thought I'd share just how insidious these people are. I reviewed part of a book for McGraw-Hill. The book was for an intro to ed class. When I had to teach the course as a new faculty member, we used Those Who Can, Teach. We played a game called, "Spot the Prop" where we would find bits of NCLB propaganda in the text. Folks, it has gotten much more blatant! Here is a quote from this new book:

Did You Know? [feature will be placed in margin]

President John F. Kennedy originally developed the proposed legislation that eventually became the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The goal was two-fold:

1) to provide every child a good education, regardless of religious, racial, or class background; and

2) to ensure American students were competitive with those in other countries, responding to the Soviets' launch into space.

These poor 19-year-old kids won't realize that the legislation had NOTHING to do with ensuring that American students could compete in the "global economy."

WE ARE UP AGAINST THE MACHINE!
