It's the 10-year anniversary of NCLB and also the 10-year anniversary of What Happened to Recess and Why Are Our Children Struggling in Kindergarten. My how time flies when you're having fun. This warning label is from p. 53 in the book, which is still in print.

WARNING TO PARENTS: Experts on child development have determined:

  • This test may cause your child to vomit, have palpitations, nightmares, and school phobia.

  • This test will make your child feel insecure, ignorant, and helpless.

  • This test will distort your child's understanding of why people read.

  • This test has no academic value. Nobody but $8-an-hour test correcters get to see your child's answers.

  • By definition, 50% of the children who take this test must score below average.

  • Because of this test, your child will no longer have recess.

  • Because of this test, you will become the warden of homework mania.

  • By taking this test your child becomes the property of the state.
