Accountability Left Behind

The subtitle of this report is While Children and Schools Face High Stakes Testing, Tutoring Companies get a Free Ride.

The report Accountability Left Behind raises serious concerns about the implementation of the No Child Left Behindís tutoring program, called Supplemental Services. The program includes private, often for-profit, tutoring companies receiving millions of dollars in contracts to tutor low-income children. Unfortunately, state by state, there has been little to no evaluation of the effectiveness of these programs.

When it comes to children and schools, under the No Child Left Behind Act, testing and evaluation is regular and on-going, but testing and evaluation of the private companies receiving public education dollars is virtually non-existent. This report shows that while there may be accountability for some, there is not accountability for all.
