Baaaaccckkkk To School

Susan Notes:

For a glorious combination of sound and sight and wonderful teaching, read A Day in the Life for September 27, 20007. You will undoubtedly be inspired to read other entries too. Sarah Puglisi is a master teacher. She makes me proud to call teaching my profession.

Give yourself a treat: Go to Sarah's site.

If you have read Sarah's previous posts about the scripted curriculum in her school (See the the index of items in Sarah's Notes featured on this site), you will see the irony of this back-to-school celebration. Children are allowed to celebrate their culture only in after-school hours. During the day, coaches walk the hallways to make sure teachers are on script. Nonetheless, we teachers are a practical lot: we know to take our celebrations wherever we can get them. And this one is glorious.

And Note: Sarah, being a teacher, learns from this celebration, builds on it.
