Latricia Wilson Moves On

Susan Notes: Yes, there is good news.

Put Latricia Wilson's name into a 'search' on this site and read her story. I remember when Latricia first contacted me, telling her story of being denied a high school diploma in Memphis because her scores weren't high enough on a math test. Although she'd been told by high school guidance counselors that she could still further her education to some degree, she discovered that technical, vocational, community colleges and universities in Tennessee wouldn't accept her special diploma, because these institutions don't consider it a valid graduation certificate.

Without that diploma, Latricia was denied entry into all beauty schools even though she had been on the technical/vocational path in high school and had taken cosmetology classes during my high school career. She was also denied entry into other Memphis technical and community colleges and universities.

Latricia fought back. Read her story here and

It is with great joy that I share the most recent news from Letricia:

I wanted to thank you for your support of me when I advocated for Memphis City School students regarding the consequences of the Tennessee Gateway Exam. I thought you may have wanted to know that I was recently accepted into a four-year college and I now attend Crichton College here in Memphis,TN. I am pursuing a BA in English.

I have a passion for writing as [well as] hairstyling.
