HERE Is How Race to the Top Money Should Be Spent

Susan Notes:

Many many thanks to Sue Allison, parent activist in Maryland, who sent me this url. I watched it and immediately called my physicist husband upstairs, insisting that he watch it.

We are delighted, intrigued, enthralled. I mention my husband's occupation so that skeptics can see that this isn't loosey-goosey, that those in "hard science" can also see the charm, intrigue, and downright value of such an innovaction.

Modest Proposal: Every teacher and parent in the land should send the url below to their Congressional representatives, to their state representatives, to their PTAs, and to their mothers-in-law. Tell then that THIS is how we should spend all the truckloads of Race to the Top monies our administration is using to do terrible things in education.

What schools need is a bit of fun. Install a stairway like the one in the video in every school in the land, from K through grad school. I am serious: besides giving students and their teachers something to think about, something to play with, everybody could learn a lot by watching how people of all ages use such stairs.

And if your school doesn't have a set of stairs, there's always the sidewalk in front of the school or a hallway inside the school.
