Fighting for a Better World, one lesson at a time

Susan Notes:

Rather than curse the darkness of the fact that Howard Zinn's voice is mostly absent from school curricula, the Teaching a People's History: Zinn Education Project is lighting a candle.

As Ken Libby describes it, "I joined ZEP precisely because it's something concrete we can do to fight for a better world."

Rethinking Schools and Teaching for Change have teamed up to create the Zinn Education Project. They're offering free lessons plans and resources for teachers and those interested in using Zinn's materials in the classroom. In the words of one participant, "This material expects teachers and students to engage in some tough questions and requires teachers to think critically about how and what they teach."

Teachers can explore by time period or by theme, and they are provided with a multitude of resources to do either.
