A Book You Will Enjoy

Susan Notes: A few comments on a book you should buy.

Lane Smith's It's a Book was released today, and I bought it.

More of a pix book for adults than for kids, I wish I had the means to send this book to every corporate politico who pontificates ad nauseum about 21st Century Skills. I bought the book on my way home from a day-long meeting of the Vermont State Board of Education, where I was the only person in the audience and therefore the only person who voiced a comment against the Common Core Standards, which The Board then passed unanimously. More about this later. The Board's comments on my comment were surreal. . . and pretty damn funny.

Meanwhile, on the way home I needed cheering up, so I stopped off at my friendly, independent bookstore and asked for Lane Smith's new book. As the store owner was going on how she wouldn't buy the book for her nephew who is already snarky enough, I was turning the pages. When I reached the final line, I laughed out loud. OUT LOUD. And bought the book.

How can one not buy a book that makes her laugh out loud, especially at the end of a terrible day?

As Booklist said, "Smith throws down his gauntlet in the ongoing debate over digital versus print." And he's on my side, so I support him with my purchase. I believe in books. I believe in supporting authors by buying their books.

Besides that, I want all the snarks I can get.

NOTE: You can watch a funny trailer for the book here.
