Susan Notes: Do something to brighten your own day.

by Susan Ohanian

In the face of the tragic event in Tuscaloosa--an elsewhere--I bring good news of a campaign to get books and school supplies to children (and adults)

Here's a Facebook announcement.

Knowing that, like me, most people will be unable to attend this event, and also knowing that many of you will welcome the opportunity to get books into the hands of children who need them, here's another idea.

I am very grateful for this information.

Here's a tip to make your $$ go further: Amazon 4-for-3 offer has a lot of good kids' books.

Search for, say, The Great Gilly Hopkins or Harry Potter or Bud not Buddy or Green Eggs & Ham or Louise, the Adventures of a Chicken or Maniac Magee or The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Then, scroll down page for "special offers." There are pages & pages of books. I ran out of money on p. 24, with 25 books in my cart. And I'm sitting here grinning. Having all the good memories these books evoke wash over me is a GREAT way to start the day.

You can send books and school supplies to:
Prof. Lisa Scherff
c/o Belser-Parton Literacy Center
204 Carmichael Hall
PO Box 870231
Tuscaloosa, AL, 35487-0231
