January 7 Opt Out Activism Across the Country
Find specific opt out information about your state here. If you don't find info listed for your state, then do a good deed and provide it. For starters, call your state department of education and ask. That's what I did. You can check it out by hitting "Vermont."
Here is what is happening on January 7 in a couple of states.
Colorado: Here in Denver we are meeting at the Capitol steps for a teach-in. We are going to share ideas/strategies for ending corporate education reform. We plan to sign opt out postcards and march them straight over to the DOE and drop them off. People are bringing protest signs etc.
Colorado is also the home of the annual billboards urging parents to opt out of the standardized testing. Browse the Coalition for Better Education website. You can help pay for this year's billboards by sending $5 (or more) to:
Coalition for Better Education
2424 22nd Avenue
Greeley, CO 80631-8154
They have sample opt out letters and other valuable information.
Colorado Opt Out Petition
Florida: The group has already received news coverage and expects more: Standardized testing opponents call for National Opt Out Day
Florida Opt Out Petition
Tennessee: Opt Out Petition
IMPORTANT On January 8th, let the people at United Opt Out National know what you did on the 7th.
And plan what you will do next to bring down standardized testing. Our children's education futures are at stake.
