High Stakes Testing Referendum

March 16, 2012

This referendum on the use of high-stakes testing is designed to initiate a much- needed conversation among parents of public school children.

Our children take many tests. They also spend much school time preparing for tests. Many of these tests are "high stakes"--that is, the results are used to make critical decisions about a child, a teacher, a principal, or a school. These decisions could determine:

* Grade promotion
* Acceptance into middle and high school
* Graduation from high school
* School “Progress Report” grade (A-F)
* Teacher tenure
* Teacher and principal job loss
* School closings

We believe that parents should have input into the decisions impacting their children's education; therefore we invite you to vote on this referendum.

Should a score from a single test determine your child's future?
